The Reluctant Dragon

Backhand Theatre bring to life this heart-warming tale based on the classic book by Wind in the Willows author Kenneth Grahame. It is the story of a boy and his encounter with a giant dragon who turns out to be far from your average fire-breathing monster. The terrifying reptile he expects to meet is instead a charming and artistic lizard with a wonderful passion for amateur dramatics. He reads poetry, gives his best Hamlet for all to see and certainly makes a lovely afternoon tea. The boy and the dragon have many adventures, but old prejudices die hard as one day the other villagers send for the most famous dragon slayer of them all, Sir George. With some quick thinking from the boy, his dragon friend and Sir George, they decide to stage the most wonderful dragon slaying ever seen! Can the dragon learn to breathe fire in time and will the village fall for their trick? This wonderful tale, told with beautiful hand crafted puppets and a fresh new score, is fun for all the family with comedy, puppetry and adventure.
